A fun quilt made with wool applique on linen backgrounds. The applique is completed with simple embroidery stitches using wool thread and perle 8 cotton.
The curved piecing on the background squares is made by hand (no scary machine stitched curves),with a simple technique and reverse applique. This is a great design to play with, you can customise the applique to reflect your memories from close to home of places visited.

This fun achievable quilt is designed with 52 little blocks, hence the ‘block of the week’ title. The idea is to build up your embroidery skills as you go, like little lessons each week. The applique is done using pure wool felt or woven felted wool would work as well. Most of the applique is done using Perle 8 cotton. It is designed for all skill levels, if you haven’t done any wool applique work this is a great way to start. It is a great travel project as all of the blocks are small and easy to do ‘on the run’.
I have used Japanese yarn dyed fabrics however linens and cotton would work just as well.
Each week you will have access to download each block as a printable pdf. There will be clear instructions for the embroidery and how to do the applique and make the block. When you have completed all the 52 blocks you will get instructions for cutting the sashing and borders and putting the quilt together.
Don’t be too concerned about completing 1 each week, some weeks I was able to do 3 or 4 and other weeks I wasn’t able to do any. The blocks will remain there for your access once they have been released.
Once you have purchased the block of the week you will receive an email with the log in details. Each week a new block will be added to the site. Access is for your use only and cannot be used by another person. Please respect my copyright. The nominal fee is a one-off cost and allows you access for the full year.
